Open Options’ Sherinda Barrow, Director of Education Services, and William Murphey, National Sales Engineer, have both been awarded an educational scholarship from the Security Industry Association (SIA) Scholarship Program.
SIA and the University of Phoenix have partnered to provide 10 full-tuition scholarships to be applied toward an undergraduate or graduate degree through the university. In addition to being an employee of a SIA member company, applicants were also judged on the required scholarship application, reference letter, and multiple essays, as well as their commitment to advancing their education and furthering their careers.
Sherinda Barrow has been with Open Options since March of 2005. She began as a Trainer and Technical Writer, and in 2013, Barrow was promoted to Director of Education Services to oversee the growing demands of the department.
“I am honored to be one of ten recipients of the Security Industry Association scholarship program,” said Barrow. “This scholarship enables me to learn from outstanding professors, and above all, pursue my academic ambitions and professional goals. I appreciate the value SIA and the University of Phoenix place on helping aspiring industry professionals to advance their education and careers.”
Barrow will be pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Security Management degree with an Enterprise Security Administration certificate.
William Murphey started his career at Open Options in 2002 as a Technical Support and Deployment Specialist, and served in that role for four years until he transitioned to sales. In 2010, Murphey was promoted to his current position of National Sales Engineer, where he serves as a valuable technical resource to the sales team.
“I am extremely excited and blessed for the opportunity to further my education and career,” said Murphey. “I am grateful to the Security Industry Association for the work they do and for providing this scholarship to help those of us in the industry further our educations. I am also thankful for my wife for encouraging me to apply for the scholarship and supporting me during the endeavor of earning my master’s degree.”
Murphey holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management, also from the University of Phoenix, and plans to pursue a Master’s Degree in Information Systems and Cyber Security.
SIA scholarship recipients will receive recognition at The Advance, the annual meeting of SIA Membership, at the Sands Expo on Tuesday, April 4 at 3:30 p.m. To register for attendance, click here.
